The case of the missing bartender from Hideaway Saloon was solved by Cliff before a missing person’s report could be filed simply because he bypassed his Lieutenant and took matters into his own hands. Technically, Cliff should’ve waited for a relative or friend to report Charlie Wilson missing.

If he had, the matter would’ve been turned over to someone in the missing person’s division to investigate. If a dead body was discovered, a homicide detective would take over. If the detective found a link to the Clown Slayer killings, then, and only then, would Cliff get involved.

Instead of waiting for those dominoes to fall, Cliff pulled Charlie’s address from the driver’s license database and drove to it. Under the pretext of interviewing a witness in the Clown Slayer case. Something certainly in his purview to do.

On the way over, Cliff developed a strategy. If Charlie answered the door, Cliff would question him about seeing the woman with the red lipstick in the bar. Why did he call in the tip? How was she acting suspiciously? Did he get a good look at her? If it seemed like he did, then Cliff would arrange a meeting with the sketch artist.

The best possible scenario. Charlie was alive and they would have a composite drawing of the Clown Slayer.

That didn’t seem likely. Why didn’t Charlie show up for work on Friday night? More importantly, why didn’t he pick up his paycheck?

Cliff assumed the worst.

If Charlie didn’t answer the door, Cliff wasn’t going to drop it. It didn’t mean Charlie wasn’t there. He could be inside the house, dead or dying. Cliff wasn’t going to leave there without knowing for sure.

The modest house was easy to find and showed no signs of activity. Cliff went all the way around the outside of the house, peering in windows and checking the doors. All were locked.

Cliff was within his rights to check the handles. At any time, if a detective or police officer observed something suspicious, they could go as far as to enter a house as long as a reasonable person would’ve done the same thing.

Cliff decided not to force his way in.

Not yet anyway.

Instead, he walked toward the detached garage. He wanted to know if Charlie’s car was there. That might be a good enough reason to enter the residence.

The door to the detached garage was ajar. At least that was Cliff’s story, and he was sticking to it.

Once he opened the door, he smelled the odor of a decomposing body and called it in.

The various forces descended on the home over the next thirty minutes.

Charlie Wilson’s body was discovered in his vehicle. His throat had been slashed with what appeared to be a surgical instrument. From left to right if facing the victim which was interesting.

The Clown Slayer was presumed to be right-handed.

The killer was likely sitting in the back seat, behind Charlie. There’s no doubt who the killer was. Written on the windshield of the car in red lipstick were the words, Tag You’re It.
